In 1972 when Tangalle Balika Maha Vidyalaya estabilished there were classes from Grade 6 to Grade 12.
Only art Subjects were taught there in the curriculum for the girls in GCE Advanced Level.
The year 1974 commenced with GCE A/L classes in Commerce and Home science.
The year 1980 saw the beginning of subject in science stream in GCE A/L. With this onward step, girl
pupils were selected for the Engineering Faculty of University for the firt time. Thus brought honor
and fame to the school.
Laboratories in Science, Home science and Agriculture are the most significant resources we got in
1980. It was during this year that we had our play ground, though it is incomplete. This was grate gift
our girl were able to win Gold medals at the south Asian (SAARF) games held in 1991. Almost every
year our girls display special skills in all Sri Lanka annual games.
Within a limited number of subjects,we were capable of getting the educational doors opened up for
our girls. Today we can boast of a school having many a subject,including Computer Technology.
Among our past pupils there are Engineers,Medical Practitioners,Dental Surgeons,Vertinary Surgeons,
Lawyers,Lecturers and employees of every fields of activity in Government and non Government
services.
During a brief period of time we were able to attain this Golden era of our school,because of the
dedicated service of our principals and the staff of teachers from the inception.
Our school is up-graded to the status of a National School effective from 15'th may 1993. The glorious
advancement then gained is due to nobody else but the untiring effort and successful management of
our late Principal Mrs. Hilda Amaraweera.
